Stoinis goes on the rampage, IPL teams' bowling efficiency, Usman Khan's Pakistan return & Sai Sudarshan's consistency.
The Hulk breaks down Chepauk’s defenses
Stoinis goes on the rampage, Dube can’t be ignored by IND, & Yadav is a consistent wicket taker this year.
The Lucknow Super Giants beat the Chennai Super Kings by 6 wickets. ESPNcricinfo’s Deivarayan Muthu details how LSG’s Marcus Stoinis breached the CSK fortress at Chepauk, while his colleague, Sampath Bandarupalli, writes about the best stats from his record-breaking century.
Cricket.com’s Anirudh Suresh talks about Daryl Mitchell’s tough IPL so far, while his colleague, Aakash Sivasubramaniam, says that Shivam Dube can not be ignored by Team India after his exploits this season for CSK.
Cricbuzz’s Purnima Malhotra chronicles Kuldeep Yadav’s growth into one of the few bowlers in the tournament who can pick up wickets regularly without getting fazed by the occasional bad over.
An uncredited Cricket.com piece looks at how the matches have unfolded at every venue in the league so far (prior to yesterday’s match).
The Maharashtra Cricket Association is looking to revive their domestic T20 tournament, originally called the Mumbai Premier League.
Following up on yesterday’s graph, I thought I’d look at every team’s bowling efficiency today…
…the Punjab Kings take over 7 wickets per 120 balls while conceding minimal fewer than 7 maximums. It’s how they’re still in the hunt for a playoff spot despite their abysmal batting. Unsurprisingly, RCB take the fewest wickets (4.43) per 120 balls, while conceding the most 6s (12.26) and a very high number of extras (10.43). MI’s bowling attack is pretty abysmal too, especially when you remember Jasprit Bumrah gets four overs every game.
By the way, I’ve set up a Twitter and Instagram account under @BestCricStories where I post all these graphs & images, and would appreciate the support if you like them!
Usman Khan to displace Babar?
Maximising Usman Khan’s potential, Flintoff’s son makes his mark, & understanding Ireland’s issues.
Dawn’s Ahsan Iftikhar Nagi has a great analysis on what Pakistan need to do to be able to maximise the potential of the newly recalled Usman Khan, especially if they want him to replicate his sensational Pakistan Super League form.
The Guardian’s Gary Naylor has his regular comedic take on the County Championship week that was. Meanwhile, Andrew Flintoff’s 16-year old son scored his maiden red ball century yesterday.
The Part-Timer’s Nathan Johns breaks down his podcast interview of Cricket Ireland CEO Warren Deutrom yesterday. Normally, details like Deutrom lending CI €100,000 would be implied as “Deutrom is a good guy”, rather than contextualising why and how it was done. I really liked it as a new way of reporting on an issue, rather than just publishing a conversation on a podcast and moving on.
Sai sticks to the schedule
Jarrod Kimber makes the case for Sai Sudarshan as the most consistent batter in the IPL.
Jarrod Kimber has a good statistical break down of how Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudarshan always - always - performs the same way in T20s (even if that may not be what you always want from a middle overs batter).
