While trying to resubscribe to The Athletic, I realised it was somehow cheaper to get an entire New York Times subscription.
Weird thing though. As good as some of the articles are, the bit that I keep coming back to is the daily crossword. It’s unexplainably fun, and a great way to kill half an hour here and there. It’s at least a lot more fun than mindless scrolling through social media, and then hating myself for it later.
The only problem with it is that the clues are often for super obscure nonsense that I’m never going to know. Cultural references that are tailor made for rich, white, old folks in the Hamptons. Plus, there’s never a cricket question. What is even the point of having spent so many years on this sport if I’m going to get stumped by golf clues?
I tried searching, but I couldn’t find many good cricket-specific crosswords online. So, I did the only logical thing and made some myself.
Let me know what you think!

THE MEDIUM CROSSWORD, or the “I want to feel some sense of achievement”
Okay, so some of you are already experts. You watched the Indian Women’s team before Harmanpreet Kaur knocked them into the public consciousness in 2017. You’ve been watching the Big Bash since 2015. Hell, maybe you’ve even gone through decades old scorecards. I bet you have to Google at least one answer though!
Hint: We’re not going to forget this in a hurry!

THE HARD CROSSWORD, or the “I’m a masochist who needs a dose of frustration”
When I was creating these puzzles, I tried to create an internal criteria for each level that would differentiate them. Word-for-word, my metric for this was “difficult to finish, even if you are a cricketer-turned-commentator.” So, you know…good luck.
Hint: There are levels to this. And at the highest level you get no help!
